When you speak to some, they say site safety has been taken too far and it is now not workable.  This is absolutely not the case, as progress made over the last decade in keeping people safe has been outstanding.

Most major projects now develop a matrix of tailored non-negotiable rules – and this makes good practice.  Strict discipline is a key factor in making “non negotiables” work and it needs to be distributed consistently.  They are the “commandments” everyone on the project must obey.

The “non negotiables” should be effectively communicated to the point where they can be recited by each site worker and embedded in the site culture.

When you see the workforce challenging each other if a line gets crossed, you know the effectiveness of the “non negotiables”.
